How long have the CNMs practiced as midwives?
Our midwives have over 50 years cumulative experience, and we have delivered more than 1,500 babies.

Birth
If I deliver at the Birth Center, can I have pain relief?
A number of pain relief options are available, including pain medications if needed.
What is the advantage of a Birth Center birth?
A certified nurse midwife is focused on you and your baby throughout your entire labor and delivery. You won’t be confined to bed during labor and a tub and shower are available for relaxation. You also have the option of a water birth. You can eat or drink during labor and your family can attend the birth. Your baby also stays with you at all times.
If I give birth at the Family Health & Birth Center, how long do I have to stay after my baby is born?
Once the baby is nursing well, and the midwives are sure you are not having any health problems, you may return home. You may also stay up to 24 hours. Home visits are available during the first few days after you return home with your baby.
What if something happens during my labor?
We have the same emergency equipment, drugs and training as is available in the hospital. If necessary, EMT services are readily avaiable to take you to an area hospital. The Family Health & Birth Center has existed since 1987 and has an outstanding record of safety. We want your birth to be rewarding and safe.
Do you offer Lamaze/prepared childbirth classes?
We offer classes that focus on preparation and childbirth through our Centering Pregnancy Program. The techniques are not specific to Lamaze. They are specific to the needs of the couple and were developed over years of supporting laboring women. We also offer Hypnobirthing© where you will gain an understanding of how the birthing muscles work in perfect harmony--as they were designed to--when your body is sufficiently relaxed. You will learn how to achieve this kind of relaxation, free of the resistance that fear creates, and you will learn to use your natural birthing instincts for a calm, serene and comfortable birthing.
What information do you have about breastfeeding?
We have a certified lactation consultant on staff to answer all your breastfeeding questions and all the certified nurse midwives (CNMs) have experience with breastfeeding.
Can I have an epidural during labor at the Family Health & Birth Center?
Depending on where you deliver, yes. Both local hospitals provide epidural analgesia during labor.
